What a life calendar in weeks is
It is a graphic representation in which each week of your life is a small square. With 52 weeks per row and one row per year, an 80-year life fits on a single sheet. The idea helps you see time as a finite but abundant resource: there is plenty of space, although it is not infinite.
How to read the result
- Filled squares: the weeks already lived.
- Highlighted square: the week you are in now.
- Empty squares: the weeks left until the life expectancy you have chosen.
If your age is above the chosen life expectancy, the calendar appears complete: it is not an error, you have simply passed that estimate. Raise the slider to consider a longer horizon.
What it is for
- Gaining perspective: seeing weeks as squares invites you to value each one.
- Planning stages: you can mentally mark the years of study, work or retirement and see their relative weight.
- Giving or decorating: many people print the calendar and pin it up in their workplace as a reminder.
Why 52 weeks per year
A real year has 52 weeks and one or two extra days. Using 52 weeks per row simplifies the drawing and produces a tidy calendar, at the cost of a small inaccuracy of a few days per decade. For an exercise in perspective, that difference is irrelevant.
An important reminder
This calendar does not predict how many weeks you will live. It is a tool for reflection based on population averages. To find out more about those averages, read our article on life expectancy by region.
